Apple-Pear Crisp – SCD | GAPS | Paleo | Primal

On my SCD journey, I have realized that for me, breakfast is the hardest.  I love French Toast, Pancakes, Biscuits and Gravy, Cereal with milk, etc. Eggs, Sausage, Bacon for breakfast wasn’t my usual. Of course that was part of my problem and how I was killing myself, by eating all the wrong foods.

This is by far my favorite SCD/Paleo Breakfast. It makes a great healthy dessert too!

Because I make it mainly for breakfast, I do try to limit the amount of honey I put in it. You may adjust the sweetness to your liking. Just remember that apples when cooked make their own “syrup” and make it quite sweet.

Back home Macintosh apples are in abundance. Apple trees line the streets. The only place I have been able to find them is Whole Foods. You really can use any apple you would like, I like the taste and unique texture of a Macintosh. I didn’t feel like driving an hour to get some apples so I used Gala, a common apple here in the South.

Warm soft apples with a nutty cinnamon crunch, just oozing in apple juices…nothing better!

Apple-Pear Crisp

  • 3 Large Organic Apples (Peeled and chopped )
  • 3 Organic Pears (Peeled and chopped)
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon

Crumble Topping

  • 2 cups Blanched Almond Flour
  • 1 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1/4 cup Butter (Melted)
  • 1/4 cup Nuts (Chopped (Pecans or Walnuts))
  • 2 tablespoons Honey

1. Preheat your oven to 350 degrees. Cut all apples into THIN small pieces.
2. Place all apples/pears in a casserole/baking dish. Sprinkle with the cinnamon and toss.
3. Place in oven covered with lid or foil. Cook 20 minutes.
Crumble Topping
In a bowl melt the butter, add the honey, cinnamon, nutmeg, nuts and the almond flour and mix up well.
When apples/pears are done remove from oven and crumble the topping to cover.
6. Reduce heat to 325 degrees and cook 15-20 minutes.
