High Calorie Smoothie

shake Those of us that struggle with maintaining weight while going Grain-free can often feel weak throughout the day. There is nothing on the market that is legal as far as, protein shakes go and I tried many food combos to keep me going but it wasn’t easy to do everyday. I also workout daily at home and I needed something to sustain me. The calories offered in this Smoothie reach over 1700 grams and that is typically almost a daily intake for some. I could never get enough calories and I am truly addicted to this! It takes away the constant hungry feeling.

The Strawberries cover up any Kale taste and you get all the benefits and vitamins of Kale, including anti-inflammatory properties. Full of vitamins, protein and calories, this is definitely a daily regime for me now and maybe for you too! Of course, there are many things you could do with this shake but the flavor and texture for this recipe makes it a winner!

If using a blender daily is a pain for you (like it was me) I did get a Magic Bullet and it makes everything so much easier. It’s just a cup and lid that needs a wash and no extra parts.

High Calorie Smoothie

Serves 1
Prep time 5 minutes
Dietary Gluten Free, Grain free, Lactose free, Nightshade free, Nut free, Sugar free
Meal type Beverage, Breakfast, Dessert, Snack

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Coconut milk (Full fat - legal)
  • 1/2 Avocado
  • 4 Strawberries
  • 1/2 Bananas (Very ripe)
  • 1/2 cup Raw Kale or spinach
  • 1/4 cup Carrot or 100 % Orange Juice (legal) (water can be subbed)
  • 1 cup Yogurt (made with half&half)

Optional

  • Ice
  • 2 tablespoons Dried Eggs (for added protein - see notes)

Note

The eggs add great nutrients and protein. This is a great option for SCD/Paleo diet as we can't use the traditional protein shakes. Powdered Whole Eggs available here.

Directions

1. Add everything to your blender, Bullet, Ninja, etc
2. More water or ice can be added to help with your preferred texture/thickness.

    seriously? this is 1700 calories?

    i’m an adult and really could stand to gain 20 pounds or so. where can i find yogurt made with half and half? i don’t have any special dietary needs – just trying to gain weight!

    Thank you for giving back and inspiring so many people that are suffering. I love your website, all the wonderful recipes you posted and your e-book. Thank you, thank you, thank you, for posting this all for free!! It is sooooooo much appreciated!!! There are alot of people out there that are asking for alot of money for recipes and nutritional counseling sessions. Your website really inspired me just as I was about to throw in the towel!!! I have been sick for 20 years with Candida, leaky gut syndrome, fibromyalgia, GERD, and chronic fatigue syndrome. I don’t have diarrhea, very very rarely. I have constipation and severe bloating that looks like I”m pregnant after I eat. I just recently found out that I was anemic, but this diet will surely fix that with all the meat! I just started the diet 2 weeks ago and it has been really tough because I work full time and play in a band. I also struggle with keeping my weight on. My dr. did a bloodtest that said I was allergic to almonds, bananas and avocados, all my staples to keep my weight up, and that are in all the SCD smoothies. I haven’t eaten these foods for 6 weeks. do you think that is long enough to try to re-introduce those foods again or should I wait several months? I was living on almond milk, bananas in my smoothies everyday and avocados in my salads for the healthy fat.

    I got the yogurt maker and made my first batch of yogurt. I let it ferment in the machine for 25 hours and it taste a bit sour. Is it supposed to taste like that? It also looks a bit curd-like. almost has a sour cream or sour milk kind of aftertaste. I followed the instructions EXACTLY, so I can’t figure out what I did wrong. It also isn’t very thick at all and I used Organic whole milk and the yogo-gourmet starter.

      Gina, I have found that I can ONLY use half & half by Horizon Organics to get thick, not curd like yogurt. I have tried other brands too and it doesn’t work.
